Katy is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant with extensive experience in elite rugby and NHS care, specialising in musculoskeletal injuries, concussion management, and athlete health. She is passionate about promoting physical activity and evidence-based treatment for all levels of sport and exercise.

Katy Hornby is a Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultant with a wealth of experience in elite sport and clinical practice. She has worked as team doctor for England Rugby (men’s and women’s teams), Harlequins Rugby, and at major tournaments including the Commonwealth Games. Katy played a key role in developing COVID-19 return-to-play protocols for rugby and has served as Deputy Clinical Governance Lead for the RFU.
Her expertise spans musculoskeletal medicine, concussion management, and athlete health, complemented by advanced skills in diagnostic ultrasound and injection therapy. Katy is passionate about education and regularly teaches healthcare professionals, SEM trainees, and athletes on topics such as concussion and exercise prescription.
Alongside her clinical work, Katy promotes physical activity for public health and contributes to research and policy development in sports medicine. She combines evidence-based care with a patient-cantered approach to help individuals – from elite athletes to recreational exercisers – achieve safe and effective recovery.
