Biography
Dr Sonia Bains is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine and works across the military, elite sport and private practice.
Dr Bains has extensive experience in treating a wide range of patients from elite and recreational athletes across a variety of sports, to military personnel and individuals with age and work-related injuries. She is passionate about the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries, osteoarthritis and sporting injuries. She regularly uses ultrasound as a point of care diagnostic tool and works with a multidisciplinary team with the aim of optimising health and helping patients return to full function.
Dr Bains is currently a Team Doctor for the Football Association. She has previously worked for Premier League and Women’s Super League Football Clubs including Arsenal FC and Brentford FC. In addition, she has also worked for the UK Institute of Sport, Lawn Tennis Association LTA, England Rugby Festivals, Para-swimming World Championships and the IAAF World Athletics Championship, and at mass participation events including the London Marathon and London Triathlon.

Completed specialist training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in London, CCT 2021, including posts in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery, DMRC Military Rehabilitation, Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health, Rheumatology, musculoskeletal medicine, multisport with UK institute of Sport, general practice, emergency medicine and cardiopulmonary exercise testing, Dr Bains is trained in core internal medicine and attained Membership of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 2015, she is the Educational Lead for the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, to support new consultants and Dr Bains is also a committee member for the Royal Society of Medicine, Sport and Exercise Medicine section
