Dr Bains is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine with extensive experience in treating elite athletes, military personnel, and individuals with musculoskeletal injuries.

Sonia is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine and a Fellow and Committee member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

She has extensive experience in treating a wide range of people from recreational to elite athletes across a variety of sports, to military personnel and individuals with age and work-related injuries.

Sonia’s expertise spans professional football, tennis, cricket, military personnel, musicians and high-performance individuals. She focuses on on an individual tailored approach for each person and their needs and goals.

Sonia is passionate about the non-surgical management of musculoskeletal injuries, osteoarthritis and sporting injuries. She regularly uses diagnostic ultrasound scanning and works with a multidisciplinary team with the aim of optimising health and helping people to return to full function.

Sonia graduated from King’s College London with a first-class BSc in Anatomy and Human Sciences in 2008, and Medicine in 2011. She completed internal medicine training and attained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2015. She was also awarded an MSc in Sport & Exercise Medicine with Merit from University College London before entering Higher Specialist Training in the renowned London Deanery.

She is passionate about musculoskeletal medicine, particularly the non-surgical management, and supports patients holistically in their journey so that they can return to their daily activities and sports as quickly and safely as possible.

Sonia is the Chief Medical Officer to the Surrey Women’s County Cricket Club and a Team Doctor for the Football Association.

She has previously worked for Premier League, Women’s Super League Football and League 1 football clubs, including Arsenal Women FC, Brentford FC, Fulham FC and AFC Wimbledon.

Additionally, Sonia has worked for the Ministry of Defence, UK Sports Institute (multisport), Lawn Tennis Association LTA, and as an event doctor for England Rugby Festivals, Para-swimming World Championships and the IAAF World Athletics Championship. She has also participated in mass participation events, including the London Marathon, London Triathlon and RideLondon.

Sonia is a Council Member for the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, Chair of the Faculty’s New Consultants Committee and a Council Member of The Royal Society of Medicine SEM committee.
