David Hulse is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine and specialist in cycling medicine, endurance sport and injury rehabilitation.
Dr Hulse qualified as a doctor in 1996 and initially trained in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2005 I left surgical practice to pursue my interest in sports injury rehabilitation and exercise physiology. I became one of the first doctors in the UK to train as a specialist in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
He has worked extensively in professional cycling, as a team physician with WorldTour professional cycling teams. I have extensive expertise in cycling biomechanics, training and injuries, as well as medical and health problems affecting all endurance athletes.
Dr Hulse previously worked at Headley Court, the UK Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, where I led a multidisciplinary team in lower limb injury rehabilitation. In that high-performance environment I specialised in the diagnosis and management of exercise-related leg pain, including chronic exertional compartment syndrome, bone stress injuries and vascular entrapment syndromes. Our specialist team published research on the diagnosis and biomechanics of compartment syndrome.
He offers specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of cycling and running injuries, and a broad range of injuries and health issues related to endurance sport. I am lifelong cyclist who has a unique understanding of the physical demands of the sport, and the importance of health to human performance.
