Biography

Dr Dionisio Izquierdo is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine (FFSEM) with extensive clinical experience in the management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems and sports injuries across all age groups and in recreational to elite athletes. 

Dionisio is highly skilled in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and offers a wide range of ultrasound guided injections. He also offers treatments including shockwave therapy and exercise prescription and is happy to offer consultations in Spanish.

Dionisio graduated in Medicine from University College London (UCL) in 2012 before pursuing internal medicine training with an interest in Cardiology before being awarded an MSc in Sport & Exercise Medicine with Merit from UCL in 2019. He then went onto complete Higher Specialist training in the renowned London Deanery. Dionisio has also received a distinction in a Post Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal ultrasound from the University of East London.

Dionisio currently works as a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine within Barts Health NHS Trust and NHS Frimley ICB Advanced Musculoskeletal and Diagnostics Service, and as Club Doctor at Fulham FC managing professional elite footballers from youth Academy teams to the 1st team players in the Premier League.

He has significant experience working within elite sports, including roles at Arsenal FC as the lead doctor for the Arsenal Women’s first team, West Ham Football Club Academy and Women’s first team, Brentford Football Club, the Football Association (FA), the European Tour Golf, and has worked as a medical officer for a range of other sporting disciplines including the London Marathon and the School Games. Dionisio has also worked at the National NHS Dance Injury Clinic treating professional dancers.

Dionisio is passionate about musculoskeletal medicine, particularly the non-surgical management, and is here to support patients holistically in their journey so that they can return to their daily activities and sports as quickly and safely as possible.
