The Pure Experience Overview

If you are currently receiving treatment for an injury, you may be referred by your treating clinician to one of our Exercise Physiologists. Once you’ve completed your rehab, our exercise physiology team can offer ongoing support to help you stay injury-free by getting stronger through exercise with good structure and routine.

We focus on taking a holistic view of your health, so treatment can often include any necessary behavioural changes through education. When and if required, we will also introduce you to expert Dieticians, Consultant Rheumatologists, and any other members of our multidisciplinary team to support you. This is the benefit of coming to us for your treatment; you have access to everything you need, when you need it, and fast with a personalised team collaborating around your individual care.

Alternatively, if you’re exploring treatment for a chronic disease or illness and have sought the help of a Sport, Exercise & Musculoskeletal Medicine Consultant, they may decide that your disease is best managed with exercise, so they can also refer you on to the Exercise Physiology team to make sure that you have a supervised and structured exercise programme to help manage your condition.

Frequently asked questions

You will begin with an Initial Assessment where the clinician will discuss your medical history, exercise history and goals with you as well as undertaking some objective assessments. From there, you and the clinician will make a plan for future sessions. Ideally, this will consist of a weekly supervised 60-minute exercise session where the clinician will write you a cohesive exercise program that is individualised to you and your goals. However, there are a variety of options that we offer so it is best to discuss this with your exercise physiologist.

If you are living with a chronic health condition, looking to optimise your management of this or simply want to better control and take charge of your health. If you have started to notice your strength and balance declining.

If you are through the acute stage of an injury or towards end-stage rehabilitation – we always collaborate with your physiotherapist / consultant / treatment team to provide the best possible care for you.

Standard Exercise Physiology appointments are 60 minutes. We do also offer 30 minute and 45 minute appointments if that is more suitable for you.

Exercise physiology treats patients living with chronic disease or chronic pain through exercise. We do not provide any manual therapy. We look at the patient holistically, taking into account external factors that may be impacting your pain or your health condition, not just treating the problem.

Physiotherapy treats the acute injury and will typically refer on to an exercise physiologist for long-term management. We work closely with our physiotherapists, they may provide you with some manual therapy and some basic strengthening exercises for your complaint before referring to us.

Yes absolutely. We are also happy to collaborate with your physiotherapist, consultant or treatment team to allow the best possible outcome for you.

Yes, we always say ‘Exercise is Medicine’. If you are experiencing pain on the day of your appointment, we are always able to modify exercises to keep you moving within your pain-free limit. Every session is targeted to you and your goals, we are very adaptive and modifying programs if needed is like our super power!
