Part 1: The Musculoskeletal System and The Menopause

This 2-part event is for women who love to run and who are approaching, or are in, the perimenopausal or postmenopausal stages of life. There is no fee to attend, we just ask that you donate an amount of your choosing to Women In Sport. You can do this by booking your ticket via Eventbrite.

Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine, ex-Army Doctor, and Aldershot and Farnham District Running Club member, Dr Sarah Rollins, Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Francesca Sills and Running Specialist Physiotherapist and Head of Rehab, Dawn Nunes, invite you to our 90-minute, virtual event focusing on the musculoskeletal system during the menopause.

Sarah, Francesca and Dawn will take you through:

  • The impact of the perimenopause on the musculoskeletal system; why things change and what you can do about it.
  • What happens in the female body during the perimenopause / menopause
  • The reasons why everything starts to ache
  • Why it takes longer to recover from exercise than before
  • Why women experience weight gain without any diet changes
  • How to combat the effects of menopause through strength work so you can keep on running!
  • How to avoid and manage injuries that are more common during the menopause, such as proximal hamstring tendinopathy and Achilles tendinopathy.
  • How you might need to adapt your training

They will also answer the question on every woman's lips "Is it just a gradual deterioration from here on out or can I do something about it?"

Plus get research-based information on the what's, why's and how's of exercise in and around the Menopause period.

To finish, there will be a Q&A where you will be able to ask any questions you may have to our Women's Health experts - not an opportunity to be missed!

What to expect in part 2!

In the second webinar on 29th April, you will hear from a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist, a women's health dietician and a consultant Rheumatologist, who will offer their knowledge and expertise on nutrition, the female body and bone health, to improve your running experience.
