A specialist in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM), Dr Noake graduated from Birmingham University in 2002 and completed surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics in the Midlands. He holds a Master’s in SEM from Queen Mary University of London and became a fellow of the SEM faculty in 2009.
James’ clinical expertise includes musculoskeletal injury management, supported by postgraduate qualifications in medical ultrasound. He has held leadership roles within the NHS, including clinical lead for orthopaedics and SEM, and contributed to developing multidisciplinary SEM services at Imperial College NHS Trust.
With over a decade of experience in elite sport, James has served as head doctor for London Irish RFC since 2012 and worked with UK Athletics, the GB Paralympic squad, and several national teams across rugby, football, cricket, basketball, and hockey. He also provided medical support at major events including the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Currently Works At
Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Pure Sports Medicine Bank and Raynes Park since 2015 and Head Doctor (7 years) and now Consultant to London Irish RFC.

Trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, then Acute Medicine (including Rheumatology) before MSc in SEM, Completed specialist training in Sport & Exercises Medicine (London rotation CCT 2013), Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery posts, Rheumatology & general medicine posts in Oxford Deanery, DMRC Military Rehabilitation Centre, Anatomy Lecturer, Birmingham University, created NHS Herts Valleys CCG Musculoskeletal Interface Service, ‘The Tendon Clinic’ lead, The Chelmsford Private Hospital, Honorary lecturer SEM QMUL MSc and Tutor practical / interventional SMUG US courses.
