Part 2: The Musculoskeletal System and The Menopause

This event is for women who love to run and are either in the perimenopausal, menopausal or post-menopausal stages of life. There is no fee to attend, we just ask that you donate an amount of your choosing to Women In Sport. You can do this by booking your ticket via Eventbrite.

Following on from part 1: we bring you three new clinical minds. Women’s Health Dietitian & Performance Nutritionist, Dr Linia Patel, Women's Health Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Aisling Freir and Consultant Rheumatologist and Medical Director, Dr John Etherington, invite you to our 90-minute, virtual event focusing on the musculoskeletal system during the menopause.

Linia, Aisling and John will take you through:

  • The role of nutrition on the perimenopausal/menopausal body
  • Nutrition strategies to support your training
  • Top tips on how to navigate the supplement world
  • The impact of the perimenopause on the musculoskeletal system; why things change and what you can do about it
  • What happens in the female body during the perimenopause / menopause
  • Pelvic health and management during the menopause, including incontinence issues
  • How to manage osteoporosis after the menopause and whether running is beneficial
  • Why it takes longer to recover from exercise than before
  • Why women experience weight gain without any diet changes
  • How to eat well to promote a healthy musculoskeletal system
  • How to manage conditions such as osteoperosis during the menopause so you can keep running!

They will also answer the question on every woman's lips "Is it just a gradual deterioration from here on out or can I do something about it?"

Plus get research-based information on the what's, why's and how's of exercise in and around the Menopause period.

To finish, there will be a Q&A where you will be able to ask any questions you may have to our Women's Health experts - not an opportunity to be missed!
